What to do when your mouse suddenly stopped working?

My 3 year old logitech netscroll mouse just died yesterday. Scroll wheel are no longer functioning since last year, left and right click is malfunctioning recently so I tried fixing by opening the mouse but the condition worsen, my window xp is unable to detect the mouse. I tried installing and reinstalling the driver but failed. I gave up..

Now I have no mouse, navigating through web browsers and just about everything can be painstaking if you don’t have a mouse or touchpad to use. It’s best if you have a spare mouse just in case suddenly your mouse stopped working but this is not the scenario. Nothing to worry. Your PC is equipped to help you when this dilemma would arise. You can use Windows MouseKeys and you can move the mouse cursor with the use of the NumPad. To use the MouseKeys, you would need to simulatiously press the left ALT key, the left SHIFT key and the NUM LOCK key. Make sure that you press both left SHIFT and ALT key for this to work. Numbers 1 to 9, except 5 will move the mouse down, up, left, right and diagonally while number 5 simulates as single left click. + is left double click while – simulates right click and * simulates clicking both left and right click. You can adjust the speed of the cursor movement through the MouseKeys’ settings.

If you want a downloadable software to do the same task, you can download the Mouse Emulator which is a very small program, just 36 Kb. Once downloaded and extracted, you just need to run the mousemu.exe file and turn on the Num Lock for it to work. It works almost the same but is less complicated. With this, there’s no diagonal key. Instead, you need to use the Numpad just like when you’re playing a game that uses WASD for movement but instead of WASD, you use 5, 8, 4,6. 1 is for for single left click, 2 for single right, 3 for middle click, 7 for scrolling up, 9 for scrolling down. Disabling the mouse emulater, you should press CTRL+0.

Either of these 2 can really help you during those cases. No need to press tabs many times anymore.

I got my new usb memorex mouse, I bought it earlier at Megamall 5th floor Bldg A. I should have known that smaller mouse can stress my big hand. :(
