Fil-Am Brandon Vera on UFC 85 Bout

Filipino-American and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rising heavyweight star Brandon Michael "The Truth" Vera faces off against two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Fabricio Werdum in UFC 85 “Bedlam” on June 7, 2008 at The O2 arena in London, England.

At 6’3” and 220 pounds, the 30-year-old Vera is not the prototypical Filipino. Vera’s father hails from the Philippines and mother is Italian-American. Despite the fact that he grew up in the United States, Brandon's ease when it comes to the Filipino language is simply admirable.

Vera last visited Philippines to promote his upcoming fight “UFC 85” , and while staying in Philippines, he trains Filipino actor Richard Gutierrez in martial arts and has been given a role as The Assassin for Philippine primetime television show Kamandag on the GMA Network.

Vera’s last fight was against Tim Sylvia at UFC 77 in which he lose via a unanimous decision. The judges scored the bout 29-27, 29-28 and 29-28. Vera stated after the fight that he had broken his left hand during the first round. The first defeat of his career which gave him a win-loss-draw record of 8-1-0 .
