Filipinos can now enjoy the new iPhone 3G…… or not!

Many have been excited and had been anticipating for months to get their hands on the latest and coolest cellular phone to ever hit the market. Those who want to always be “in” would pay just any amount to stay with the “in” crowd and not be left behind.  With the introduction of the new Apple iPhone 3G, how many can actually afford to buy their very own iPhone?

If you can afford, why not? But surely, not too many would want to spend over 30,000 pesos just for this cellular phone. There are many phones that can surf the internet and do most things that an iPhone can do but they are at a fraction of the cost. So, how much is an iPhone 3G? Brace yourself.

You need to have P34,000 before you could buy your own iPhone 3G and that’s for the 8Gb while the 16Gb costs around P38,000. Not only that, you need to pay about P3,000 for the iPhone to be unlocked through Apple’s Mandatory in-store activation if you want your iPhone to be unlocked.  That’s about P40,000 just for this cellular phone!

With iPhone you will soon enjoy purchasing songs and videos through Apple iTunes. Come on now, do you really need to pay for something you can get for free? Filipinos use LimeWire and torrents to download their favorite songs and movies, are you willing to pay over a dollar for each of the songs on your playlist?

Many may shy away from this new gorgeous phone just by looking at its price tag but many would still purchase it not because they need it but just because it makes them look cool.  It’s a great phone, we can not deny that. But, does it have to be worth this much?

The Apple iPhone 3G will soon be in the Philippines!

That’s right, folks! Pretty soon the Filipinos will soon be lining up to buy their very own Apple iPhone 3G that is said to be much cheaper than the previously released version that costs roughly about P 25,000. Now, the 8 Gb version of the Apple iPhone 3G is announced by Apple to cost only $199 worldwide so that’s less than P10,000 considering the USD to Philippine peso won’t go up to P50=$1 again but even so, at the price of cellular phones nowadays, this one is definitely a great bargain considering all its great features. But will Globe stick to the announced price or will they abuse their tie-up with Apple and price it much higher than what is targeted? We can all just wait and see.

So what can we expect from the new Apple iPhone 3G? Of course, as stated with its name, it now offers the fast 3G wireless technology that is said to be twice as fast as the previously released Apple iPhone. Not only does it feature the fast 3G technology but now you can surf the net with its Wi-Fi. It also has a GPS mapping feature that will work in the Metro Manila areas but the provincial areas may not make much use of it as of the moment. And as what an iPhone has revolutionalized, the Apple iPhone is a combination of a cellular phone, a widescreen (touchscreen) iPod, and also as an internet device so it’s like having your own laptop, ipod and cellular phone in one! All that for less than P10,000? That is definitely hard to beat!

Expect the new Apple’s iPhone 3G to be available to all Filipinos later this year. The Philippines is not a part of the launch date set by Apple on July 11 but it promises to have the phone available a little later. With its partnership with Globe, you would get to enjoy all the great benefits and features offered by Globe Telecom on your Apple iPhone. Surely, with the price as low as what Apple announced, other cellular phone manufacturers would be on their toes and produce better quality phones at an affordable price. With taxes and other expenses, many speculate that it is impossible for the Apple iPhone 3G to be offered at that price. Let’s just hope that it won’t double the price here or else many of us would still resort to buying the phone abroad and unlocking it here.

iPhone in Asia?

Apple is said to release a version of iPhone for its Asian customers this year. Once it has been released, would it satisfy the Asian customers’ needs or people will just shy away from its expensive price tag?

iPhone is an amazing phone that is built for sophistication. Prior to its Asian release, the hacked version of the iPhone has already infiltrated Asia especially in the Philippines. Unfortunately, these hacked iPhones can not be updated or else you would have to re-hack it and it does not have many features that you would enjoy if you got an authentic un-hacked iPhone.

So, what will you get from an Asian version release of Apple’s iPhone? First of all, you get the phone’s warranty. Second, there’s no need to hack it so you could update its software with no worries. And lastly, it is believed that they would be using the 3G feature which is, by far, the highest innovation in cellular technology in Asia.

There is still no official statement from Apple regarding their Asian release of their iPhone but many believe that once it had been released in Asia, the Philippines would not be included on the list. Why, you might ask? Because Apple is generating more income from its services rather than through the revenue from iPhone purchases. Filipinos love buying high-end cellular phones even though they would have to spend their rainy-day savings just so they could flaunt their phones. But, what kind of services do Filipinos use most of the time? Filipinos love to text and most of the time, that’s the only purpose of their phones aside from its built-in hardware/software features of course. So, unlike their U.S. release where iPhone goes hand in hand exclusively with cingular, iPhone generates more residual income from its phone related services offered by cingular. It’s a totally different ballgame in the Philippines. The majority of Filipinos don’t take cellular plans instead they go for prepaid as it is much cheaper with no monthly fees.

So, is there still hope for a Philippine release of Apple’s iPhone? We just have to wait to find out!
