Jose Aldo and Ben Henderson Retain Titles in WEC 48

April 25th, 2010

It was a great night for the mixed martial arts world as another set of great and brave warriors battled it out inside the cage and it really proved that the World Extreme Cagefighting or WEC has a lot of talented fighters on their own, deep stable. Aside from brilliant undercards, it was a night of champions indeed as reigning title holders in two different weight divisions fended off challengers to retain their belts with decisive victories. It just goes to show that mixed martial arts fighting is a continuously evolving sport and that the fighters are not confined to a set of skills from a single discipline.

Ben Henderson retained his lightweight title against Donald Cerrone. It was a highly anticipated in one of 2009’s best fights and Henderson proved that his win over Cerrone last year was no fluke. He picked up from where he left off last year and took the fight to Cerrone when the bell rang and until the fight ended. It all happened on the very first round as Henderson imposed his will with a standing body lock against the cage and devastating knees to the head and legs that brought Cerrone down. Henderson wasted no time and scrambled to sink in a tight guillotine choke. The challenger had no choice but to tap out and the champ proved that he is indeed the best in his division with his first title defense and 11th straight victory.
