Asus EEE Now Goes Touch Screen

The small Asus EEE had made such an impact to the computer world. It’s a very small notebook with a price that even a working college student can buy. It wasn’t the best PC in the market but it sure has its own crowd. Those who doesn’t really need to bring a bulky notebook with them wherever they go utilizes the small Asus EEE. It has a small hard disk memory with as little as 2 Gb only so downloading the latest games or storing your thousands of songs or movies ain’t such a good idea with that one. But, it is a perfect gadget for those who just want to surf the net or just want to use basic computer software such as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

The Asus EEE is the best travel companion and despite this very good reputation, Asus EEE doesn’t want to be left behind thus they get better and better with more choices to choose from. From the 2 Gb Asus EEE to having 7 inches, 9 inches and 10 inches with widescreen notebooks and now, Asus EEE is taking pre-orders for their latest addition to their line-up of computers, the Asus EEE All-in-One Touch Screen.

If you live in the U.S., you can preorder this new touch screen computer for just around $678. It’s not a notebook; it’s a touch screen computer. The Asus EEE Touch Screen has 15.6 inches of screen size with a single touch panel. The processor is Intel Atom with a memory of 1 GB but the HD capacity is 160 Gb. The operating system used is Windows XP Home but you can upgrade it or change it to another operating system of your choice but that would be priced accordingly. It uses shared graphics of 128 Mb.

It has a 1.3 mega pixel web camera with a digital array microphone. Audio chips included are a 2x4W HiFi Speaker with SRS. It has LAN port and WiFi. You can also use a keyboard and a mouse with the touch screen computer if you want and the Asus EEE All-in-one touch screen PC weighs around 4.3 kg only.

Now, you can pre-order for your very own Touch Screen computer. It’s not quite expensive compared to other similar Touch Screen PCs out there so you can start bragging to your friends that your awesome new PC is actually touch screen.

Asus ensures that we get better choices for our needs. No need to pay a lot of money for a PC when there is a brand that is reliable and world-renowned but with a line-up of computers that are not as expensive as its competitors. Surely the price of the Asus computers is its top selling point but the quality is not to be disregarded as well. With the addition of a touch screen home desktop on the lineup of Asus EEE, we can just be more excited with what they will come up with next.

Apple’s New Upgrades

Last October 14, 2008 Apple announced new upgrades for their 3 Macbook Portables.

Their MacBook Pro has been upgraded and this time it has a multi-touch trackpad, Mini DisplayPort, Hybrid SLI and of course, a much faster processor. The FireWire 400 has been removed from the MacBook Pro but you can still use the FireWire 400 by using the FireWire 800 port. Also, with the use of Hybrid SLI, users can choose between the GeForce 9400 and the GeForce 9600M which reduces the battery life by one hour compared to GeForce 9400.

The MacBook Pro now had a much better case design so you could easily upgrade your hard drive.

The MacBook, on the other hand, is now made in aluminum. It uses the GeForce 9400 which is, as they say, is give times more powerful in graphics performance compared to the previous one. The MacBook no longer use the FireWire 400 as well.

The MacBook Air is also with a new upgrade but the design or the original MacBook Air is still used. With the MacBook Air, the upgrades include having a processor known as Core 2 “Penryn” with more cache. The lower end of the MacBook Air will get 120 Gb of disk memory while the high end model will get 128 Gb SSD. It uses the GeForce 9400 GPU as well. MacBook Air, just like the previous 2 is no longer using FireWire 400 anymore.

Thanks to these new upgrades, no one can criticize Apple’s MacBooks being outperformed by the older Apple PowerBooks. The previous MacBook Air loses to the older PowerBooks in terms of Graphics because the old PowerBook has GeForce GX Go 5200 with 64 MB Shared memory while the old MacBook air just had Intel GMA X3100 with 64 Mb of “shared memory”. This means, the MacBook Air takes away 64Mb from the system memory.

One great news from Apple during the event of the announcement of their upgrades is the other announcement that Apple will release a 24-inch Cinema Display. The 24-inch cinema display will have built-in speakers, an iSight Camera and USB hubs as well. Their 24-inch cinema display is the first of Apple’s LED external displays so let’s expect more with this technology from the lineup of Apple’s products. The price for this cool new display is not for the faint-hearted. After all, it’s Apple so it’s no longer shocking to find out that it costs much more than other brands. The Apple Cinema Display is retailed for $899 only!

You should not be left behind especially if you’re a real Apple fan. With these new upgrades, the competition for the faster and better portable computers just gets even higher. Will the sun really rise for 36 hours on October 17, 2008?

There had been this sort of astronomical phenomenon that would happen on October 17, 2008. They say that the sun will continuously rise for a total of 36 hours around Asia while the U.S. will experience 36 hours of darkness. It will make 3 days into 2 longer days that they say happens only once every 2400 years.

If you have received this e-mail, you probably may have forwarded it to all your friends too thus the rumor just grew and grew. Will the sun really rise for 36 hours on October 17th?

If you believe this rumor then you better read about how the earth rotates around the sun a little more. If the sun will not set for 36 hours then that would probably only mean that our Earth had stopped rotating for 36 hours thus everything remains on a standstill. If this will ever happen, just imagine what the consequences would be. Take note, if the Earth wouldn’t rotate, it’s not just the sun not setting for 36 hours that we should all worry about.

Our climate would change among many other effects. Ask a scientist to further explain to you what the other consequences could be. Surely there’s a lot more horrifying events that would take place if this rumor would be true.

Whoever circulated this rumor may have something in mind really. Perhaps they just want to be famous or they just want to play around the minds of everyone.

The rumor is said to have come from India and India is one of the most religious countries in Asia thereby making the rumor sound more credible to some with less sense of judgment.

This is definitely just a hoax and it’s impossible to happen. Hopefully no hoax like this will circulate again after 2400 years.

Basic SEO Tips For Drupal

  1. First thing you need to do is clean urls of your Drupal web site. To clean urls of your Drupal web site follow this. Login to your Drupal web site admin panel. Navigate to:
    Administer -> Site configuration -> Clean Urls -> Enable -> Save Configuration.
  2. Next thing you need is SEO friendly urls. Drupal has some great modules which let you rename your web sites urls to any thing you wish. First module is “path” module. The page module is installed with the Drupal installation. But it is not enabled by default. So enable the path module from Adminstrator -> Site building -> Modules.
    Path module is recommended only if you have few pages on your web site. Because every time to create a webpage, you need to manually assign a name for that web page. Suppose you have hundreds of webpages and everyday you create many pages, than renaming each page can be irritating. So, you need a module which can rename the webpage urls in some predefined SEO pattern. The Pathauto module automatically generates path aliases for various kinds of content (nodes, categories, users) without requiring the user to manually specify the path alias. The Pathauto module require “Path” module to be enabled. So, Enable Path and Pathauto module and do some simple settings of Pathauto modules in admin panel. Download Pathauto module from here:

    To configure Pathauto, navigate to:
    Administer > Site Configurations > Pathauto

    Recommended Setting for Pathauto:

    • Use dash ( - ) as default separator.
    • Don’t check the box for “Create index alias” which will result in Drupal generating additional pages that would be considered duplicate content on your site.
    • Under Node Path Settings, change the default tokens to /[title-raw]
      By doing so, your drupal websites url will be: http://www.example.com/title of the page. E.g. http://www.wowparadisephilippines.com/captivating-capiz.html
    • For the Category Path Settings, change the default to [catpath-raw]
  3. We all know how important is meta tags for SEO. Next very useful SEO module for Drupal site is Meta Tags or Nodewords. This module allows users to add meta tags, eg keywords or description. When you create a page, you will get option to add meta tags and description of your page. Make sure that the keywords you use are included in the body content of your site. Download Meta Tags module from here: http://drupal.org/project/nodewordsTo configure Meta Tags module, navigate to: Administer -> Content Management -> Meta Tags. Here you can specify global keywords that will display on every page.
  4. Having an XML site map of your site submitted to Google is one of the fastest ways to get your site deeply indexed by Google. Drupal ‘s XML Sitemap module, formally known as Google Sitemap. This module automatically generate an xml sitemap that conforms to the proper specifications.

    To configure the xml sitemap, navigate to Administer -> Site Configuration -> XML Sitemap. You can leave the default setting as is. Your sitemap will be located at http://www.websitename.com/sitemap.xml.

    Other useful Drupal Modules are:

    1. Service links Modules: Add Digg, del.icio.us, reddit, Technorati etc. links.

Step By Step Guide to Upgrade Drupal 5.x website to Drupal 6.x version

The latest version of Drupal is 6.4 The version 6.x has many advantage like security fix and many new features. So, its recommended to upgrade your Drupal site to latest Drupal version, currently 6.4 Upgrading to Drupal 6.x is must easier than previous version upgrade. Here is the step by step guide to upgrade your Drupal 5.x web site to Drupal 6.x

Before you start upgrade process from Drupal 5.x to Drupal 6.x version, read this carefully:

  1. Make sure you meet minimum requirement for Drupal 6.x.
    Web Server:
    Apache 1.3 or Apache 2.x hosted on Unix/Linux or Windows.
    IIS5 or IIS6, IIS7 if PHP is configured correctly.

    PHP:
    Recommended: PHP 5.2 or higher.
    Required: PHP version 4.3.5 or higher.

    Database Server:
    MySQL 4.1 or MySQL 5.0
    PostgreSQL 7.4 or higher

  2. Make a backup of all files and database. If anything goes wrong during upgrade process, than you can restore your Drupal 5.x web site. Must make a copy “Files” and “Site” Folder from the Drupal installation directory on your local system.
  3. If your site needs some particular module, ensure that those modules are available because few Drupal 5.x modules are still not available.
  4. Disable all contributed modules and set your Drupal site to default theme such as Garland or Bluemarine. You should upgrade modules and themes after you have completed core Drupal upgradation.
  5. Login in Drupal 5.x web site administrator panel. Navigate to modules setting page. Disable update_status module and uninstall this modul
  6. Again in Drupal 5.x admin panel, navigate to Logs -> Status report
    If there is any problem fix it before upgrade.
  7. Upgrade all installed modules to its latest version available for Drupal 5.x
  8. Set your Drupal site to off-line mode. This can be done as follow. In Drupal admin panel Navigate to : Administrator -> Site Configuration -> Site maintenance -> select site status as off-line -> Save Configuration.
  9. Now using any FTP delete all files and folder from the Drupal installation directory.
  10. Download the latest version of Drupal 6.x from drupal.org. Unpack the files and upload it to the Drupal installation directory.
  11. Copy and paste “Files” and “Site” Folder from your backup to Drupal installation directory.
  12. If other system files such as .htaccess or robots.txt were customized, re-create the modifications in the new versions of the files using the backups.
  13. Run update.php by visiting http://www.example.com/update.php (replace www.example.com with your Drupal installation's domain name and path).
  14. Replace all custom old modules to their latest version compatible with version 6.x
  15. Re-enable custom and contributed modules and re-run update.php to update custom and contributed database tables.
  16. Upload any new theme for your site and enable it.
  17. Now you have updated your Drupal 5.x website to Drupal 6.x . Now login to admin panel and set your website status to online mode.
